Nearly 100 years ago, John Maynard Keynes predicted that technology would drastically increase productivity and transform the way we live. Back then, people were deeply skeptical of his vision for the future of work. Sound familiar? Today, as A.I. accelerates, tech leaders are making similar promises. So the Princeton economist Markus Brunnermeier decided to turn to Keynes to try to find out what the father of modern macroeconomics would say about this moment. To do so, he used A.I. to create a bot of Keynes. Trained on over 12,000 pages of Keynes’s writings, transcripts and recordings, it answers questions in Keynes’s own voice and style. It has some striking thoughts about our A.I. age — and a warning about where it could take us. | 🎥 Mehron Abdi and Sarah Kramer #nytopinion
