What are voter roll purges? President Donald Trump’s administration has sought an unusual amount of control over state voting rolls, part of a widespread effort to crack down on what he sees as rampant illegal voting in recent months. The Trump administration has sued to access the voting rolls of 30 states and Washington, D.C., and filed charges against dozens of undocumented individuals DOJ says voted in past elections. The Trump administration’s efforts to access state voting rolls has been almost universally rebuffed by the courts, with 26 of its attempts to access voter rolls dismissed, according to the Brennan Center for Justice, a liberal-leaning think tank and advocacy group.
