Why did Karoline Leavitt quit? Who is replacing her? An online rumor that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt quit her job because she was on President Trump’s “decoy plane” is likely not true. She probably wasn’t even on the trip.

The economic aftershocks of the earthquake in Colombia. The ground broke beneath San José del Palmar at 7:34 on Monday morning, where Chocó’s rainforest meets Colombia’s coffee interior. The magnitude 7.4 earthquake began 103 kilometers below the surface, according to the Colombian Geological Service, but its consequences were felt across a country divided by distance, investment, and political attention. Nearly 260 people had been reported dead as searches continued. Valle del Cauca accounted for 150 deaths, including 95 in Cali. Pereira, 55 kilometers from the epicenter, reported around 90. Quibdó counted 14. Damaged roads and communications kept the totals fluid. That delay matters. In a river community without reliable power or cellular service, the missing may remain absent from official counts long after relatives begin searching. Chocó is one of Colombia’s poorest and most neglected departments, predominantly Afro-Colombian and Indigenous, with weak transport links across rivers and forest. The reporting placed extreme monetary poverty there at 44.9 percent in 2024 and unemployment at 12.8 percent in 2025. The seismic wave did not ask who had savings, insurance, a reinforced roof, or a road to the nearest hospital. Recovery will. Caption from article by The Latin American Post.

The Patriot Games, explained. Athletic ability wasn’t the sole factor considered for participation in the competition, and those selected appear to have largely similar backgrounds. Contestants were asked to film a video answering a series of prompts about why they wanted to compete and to explain how sports have shaped their identity. They were also asked to list places outside their home state where they had a “meaningful personal, family, cultural, military, or community connection,” according to the application. Applicants were required to list their biological sex. When announcing the games last year, Trump pledged that at the games, “there will be no men playing in women’s sports.” Contestants ages 14 to 17 include children of active-duty military and JROTC participants, as well as homeschooled students. Of the kids featured in the Freedom 250 Instagram page, many attend private Christian schools. They also appear to be overwhelmingly White; the application for the Games did not ask to specify race.
