PART 1/2 Meet Beau. A 6-year-old German Shepherd / Great Pyrenees mix with a serious bite history. Beau had bitten his owner multiple times, a family friend, and during his last vet visit, he attempted to bite both staff and the veterinarian. He was overwhelmed, unsafe, and heading down a path with very few options left. Thankfully, his owners didn’t give up. They reached out and committed to a 6-week behavior modification board & train. After 5 weeks of structured behavior work, obedience, and muzzle conditioning, we returned to the same veterinary clinic that Beau struggled in before training. This was a high-stakes moment. There were multiple bite attempts, but here’s the difference: everyone stayed calm, neutral, and communicative. That changed everything. Was it perfect? No. Was Beau safer, more manageable, and able to be treated for a painful bacterial infection in his paw? Yes. Handling a 100+ lb dog with bite history is no small task. Huge respect to my apprentice Kevin and Beau’s owner for staying consistent and showing up when it mattered most. When a dog has a bite history, should they be written off as “dangerous,” or does the responsibility fall on the owner to step up, provide structure, and do the hard work instead of giving up? #dogtraining #dogs #dogtrainer #dogsoftiktok #behaviormod
