Former US President Barack Obama surprised a plane full of veterans and their families as they arrived in Washington ahead of Veterans Day. The “honor flight” was carrying veterans and their families to the nation’s capital on Saturday. Upon the flight’s landing, Obama boarded the plane and addressed its passengers. Footage released on November 11 shows the former president thanking each individual for their service as they landed. The video also shows the vets receiving applause from an awaiting crowd at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington. “I was honored to welcome a flight of veterans and their families as they arrived in DC,” Obama wrote on X. “To all those who bravely served our country, thank you to you and your family for your extraordinary service. The sacrifices that all of you have made to protect our country will be honored, today and every day.” In a post on his personal blog, the former president said he gave each veteran a Presidential Challenge Coin.

An irate customer who threw a cup of scalding coffee at a McDonald’s employee at a location in Saginaw, Michigan, was so well-known in her community that police received over 100 tips identifying her shortly after they posted footage of the attack. Video filmed by eyewitness Tara Martus shows part of a lengthy exchange between the customer and the employee. In the video, the woman says she has been at the McDonald’s for an hour and argues with the employee, who explains that her breakfast order was automatically canceled by the restaurant’s system due to breakfast service being closed for the day. The employee repeatedly tells the customer that a refund had been issued and would take 48 hours to be credited to her. When the employee finally disengages, the customer yells expletives, takes the top off the cup, and throws the hot coffee at the worker as she walks away. The Buena Vista Police Department posted a public appeal for information, but edited their post less than an hour later, saying they had identified the suspect. Detective Russ Pahssen of the Buena Vista Police Department told MLive he received “over 100” tips and the woman was identified “in two minutes,” but was still at large. The employee suffered minor burns, and the department recommended the suspect be charged with felonious assault, MLive reported.

Some fliers at George Bush Intercontinental Airport could hardly believe their eyes when a SkyWay shuttle at the Houston hub gave them a bird’s-eye view of the long, snaking check-in lines amid TSA staff shortages caused by the government shutdown. Carissa Wages told Storyful she felt lucky to “only” have to wait two or three hours as she traveled on Sunday, November 2. She described the situation as “crazy” and said she would have missed her flight had it not been delayed. Local media reported an improved situation on Tuesday, but warned long lines could return.
